YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) is committed to more ambitious reforms, but the Armenian government will have to decide on the continuation of the reforms.

Ambassador Traian Hristea, who is Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, stated the abovementioned at the first training of the EU Club in Armenia.

He said that the EU will continue to assist in Armenia’s reforms, and added that the EU has taken note of Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union and respects the sovereign decisions of its partner countries.

“We will continue our cooperation in the domains that comply with the new obligations of Armenia,” Hristea stated.

The ambassador also noted that the major reforms within the country need great assistance.

“We need to discuss specific domains in whose direction the cooperation will be conducted,” he added.

Hristea stressed that special attention will be paid to Armenia’s civil society.

The EU delegation head also highlighted that, following the 180-degree turn in Armenia’s foreign policy, there should not be a U-turn in the reforms process.

“This is why I support the reforms process in Armenia. Indeed, a drop is recorded in the level of confidence; but my work as a diplomat is to remove this gap,” Traian Hristea added.
