YEREVAN. – In May, Azerbaijan will assume the Chairmanship of the Council of Europe (CoE) Committee of Ministers, and the CoE is concerned because this chairmanship will be taken on by a country where there are fundamental problems and numerous shameful and irresolvable matters in connection with human rights, democracy, and freedom of speech.

Non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party National Assembly Faction Secretary Naira Zohrabyan, who is also a member in Armenia’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), told the above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am

Zohrabyan commented on Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev’s demand that the aforementioned Armenian delegation’s mandate be stopped.

As per the Armenian MP, Aliyev realizes that his country’s Chairmanship to the CoE Committee of Ministers is a contentious issue, and therefore he has decided to take the road of “reaction” by stating the need for putting an end to the mandate of the Armenian delegation to PACE.

“In the meantime, Azerbaijan’s true face is very well known within international organizations. Azerbaijan also understands that the next PACE sessions will be devoted to it and the country’s authorities are attempting to deal a counterblow.

“But these statements by Ilham Aliyev will not be supported not solely among the European parliamentarians, but even by the parliamentarians of brotherly Turkey,” Naira Zohrabyan stressed, in particular.
