YEREVAN. – If some products are cheaper and better quality than the local ones, they should not be avoided, even if they are from Turkey.

Armenia’s “Consumer Consulting Center” NGO Director Karen Chilingaryan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

First and foremost, as per Chilingaryan, this refers to vegetables, which are much more cheaper in Turkey.

“There is not always an appreciable difference between our and the Turkish cucumbers, or tomatoes. The [respective] seeds [in Armenia] are often from Turkey; the fertilizers are imported, too.

“And the [irrigation] water [in Armenia] is not always clean, whereas the price is twice as expensive than the Turkish one. So, the local producers should develop in such a way that the local consumer may gain,” he said.

According to the “Consumers Association of Armenia” NGO Director Armen Poghosyan, however, Turkish products should not be purchased based on national honor.

“If possible, of course, the local [product] should be the preferred within reason,” Poghosyan stressed.
