YEREVAN. – The attempts to have the Armenian Genocide be recognized by the US have turned the first genocide of the 20th century into a mere tool.

Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Hayk Demoyan, who is also Secretary of the Armenian Genocide 100th Anniversary Events Coordinating State Committee, stated the above-said at a press conference on Friday.

According to Demoyan, numerous such attempts likewise have been made in the past, and he stressed that the objective of these events is to make use of this Armenian issue as a means for solving short- or long-term problems.
“Do we need this? Should we rejoice that our tragedy has become a loose change in grand politics? I think not,” Demoyan noted.

He added that Turkey is a main US ally in the region, this status will not change, and, accordingly, changes should not be expected in the Armenian Genocide issue, too.

On April 10, the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations adopted a draft resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
