Armenia has improved its position in the Global Peace Index climbing from last year’s 98th to 97.
According to the report, Armenia remains the most peace-loving country in the region. The neighboring Azerbaijan is ranked 123th place, Georgia is 111th, Turkey – 128th and Iran – 131st.
Iceland is named the most peaceful country just as in previous years, while Syria is the last in the list.
The Global Peace Index is the world’s leading measure of national peacefulness. Now in its eighth year, it ranks 162 nations according to their ‘absence of violence’. It is composed of 22 indicators, ranging from a nation’s level of military expenditure to its relations with neighbouring countries and the percentage of prison population.
