YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan on Monday met with Russian Federation (RF) Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is in Armenia on an official visit. 

The President expressed confidence that the RF FM’s visit will become an important step in the strengthening of allied relations between the two countries. Sargsyan stressed that the agreements, which he had reached with RF President Vladimir Putin, have enriched the bilateral agenda, and that the implementation of these agreements will give a major boost to Armenia-Russia cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan also stressed that Armenia stands ready for active and serious work with Russia.   

Conveying President Putin’s warm greetings, RF FM Lavrov, for his part, assured that Putin is committed to the agreements which he had reached with President Serzh Sargsyan. Lavrov also informed Sargsyan about his talks with Armenia FM Edward Nalbandian during which, according to the Russian minister, they discussed Armenian-Russian relations and stressed the respective dynamic work.

Lavrov added that they had conferred on the processes for Armenia’s joining the Eurasian economic integration. In the RF FM’s words, the two ministers also discussed cooperation within international organizations, Armenia-Russia collaboration, and the coordination of the two countries’ activities in foreign policy. Minister Lavrov assured that the two FMs also looked into the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process where Russia, as per Lavrov, adheres to the precepts which the presidents of the three OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries (Russia, USA, and France) have repeatedly confirmed.

President Serzh Sargsyan and RF FM Sergei Lavrov also spoke about the course of implementing the Armenian-Russian high-level agreements, and outlined the future courses of action aimed at strengthening cooperation.
