YEREVAN. – The obstacle standing in the way of Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) accession is whether or not economic relations between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) will change as a result of this accession.

Giro Manoyan, the Head of the Political Affairs Bureau and the Armenian Cause Office of the Armenian opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday.

As per Manoyan, the issue at hand is not whether NKR will join EaEU together with Armenia.

“It is apparent that Russia wants Armenia to join EaEU, whereas [the other EaEU members] Belarus and Kazakhstan don’t want [this] taking into account Azerbaijan’s interests. They are attempting to get something [either] from Azerbaijan, or Russia,” he stressed.

Even though Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union accession document was to be signed on Tuesday, July 1, the process is being deferred.
