There is no serious reason for the delay in Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) accession; they are purely technical matters.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who visited Gyumri city to discus housing issues, told the aforementioned to reporters on Tuesday.

“I’ve said that we [Armenia] will sign the EaEU accession documents by the end of October. This is a process that we will conclude in September-October. I’m convinced that we will become a full member in the Eurasian Economic Union as of January 1, 2015,” he said.

The PM denied the information that Armenia’s EaEU accession is delayed due to the demand to set up customs checkpoints on the border between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Abrahamyan also assured that his visit last week to Sochi, Russia, and his talk with Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev had nothing to do with Armenia’s EaEU accession process. In his words, the objective of his talk was to meet with the Russian-Armenian businessmen and discuss the opportunities for making investments in Armenia. The PM added that he reached an agreement with these businessmen to meet in Armenia in September.
