The residents of Georgia’s predominantly Armenian-populated Samtskhe-Javakheti Province have handed large quantities of weapons and ammunition to the law enforcement. 

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs press service informed the aforesaid on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the residents of Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe, and Ninotsminda towns have voluntarily handed to the Ministry regional departments large quantities of military cartridges, hand grenades, rifles, guns, one automatic weapon, and different types of ammunition, including an anti-tank mine. 

An investigation is underway on the illegal acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition.
