YEREVAN. – Digital connections are essential for Armenia, given complex border issues in the region, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia said during his opening speech at the Oracle User Groups conference in Yerevan, the first large-scale Oracle conference in Armenia.

John Heffern welcomed the activities of Oracle, the second largest IT company worldwide by revenues, in Armenia.

The Ambassador hoped that that the American IT-companies, the number of which in Armenia is quite considerable, will stay involved in and contributing to the daily economic life of the country.

“We think the future of Armenia is a knowledge-based economy. Regarding the fact that physical borders are obviously an issue in this region, digital connections are of essential importance,” he emphasized.

Digital development of the nation will give new opportunities to a large pool of talented youth, which is an important competitive asset for Armenia, he added.
