YEREVAN. – Former Armenian deputy defense minister Vahan Shirkhanyan described as “ordered misapprehension” the charges brought against Armenian-Russian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan.

Neither Armenia, Karabakh, nor Russia are interested in his arrest. This is advantageous to Azerbaijan only, Shirkhanyan believes.

He pointed to necessity of organizing demonstrations in support of Levon Hayrapetyan.

“I hope that Levon Hayrapetyan will be placed under house arrest,” he said.

Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15 and subsequently arrested. On Thursday, July 24, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him; the charges are embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering.
