The body of Kochar Kharatyan, 13, who had died in Georgia as a result of a road accident, is transferred to Armenia. 

The Georgian police, however, do not permit Kochar’s father, Samvel Kharatyan, to return to Armenia and attend his son’s funeral.  

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that the Kharatyan family lives in Vanadzor city of Lori Region, and they had gone to Georgia for vacation. 

At the time of the accident, the Kharatyan couple and their three children were in the car.

According to preliminary data, the motorcycle, which had crashed into the family’s vehicle, was traveling at a speed of 200 km/h. 

With assistance by the governor of Lori Region, Ani Kharatyan, 12, who is in a coma, was transferred to Armenia in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Aleksandr Kharatyan, 8, on the other hand, is in stable condition, and his injuries are not serious.    

The Armenian embassy in Georgia is holding talks with local police to permit the driver of the car, Samvel Kharatyan, to return to Armenia. 

We have learned that Samvel Kharatyan’s Armenian passport was confiscated to prevent him from leaving Georgia. 

As reported earlier, the Rescue Service of Armenia had received information, on August 16 at 2:35pm, from the Department of Emergency Situations of Georgia.

Accordingly, there was a road accident, on the same day at 12:59pm, in the Georgian summer resort city of Kobuleti, as a motorcycle and a Hyundai had crashed. 

As a result, Armenian citizen K. Kharatyan, 13, died on the spot, whereas S. and 12-year-old A. Kharatyan were transferred to the Kobuleti medical center.
