YEREVAN. – Russian Federation (RF) Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will arrive in Armenia in September, Zhamanak daily reported.

“Prime ministerial visits are usually of economic nature; Medvedev’s visit will not be an exception in this respect. This matter becomes urgent in Armenia-Russia relations especially in the case of Western sanctions [against Russia].

“The problem is that Armenia inevitably will be under the sanctions [as well], which will mean that it will pay dear for becoming Russia’s political attachment.

“Unless Russia assumes certain commitments of financial assistance to Armenia, the situation can lead to an economic collapse in Armenia.

“[Discussion of] the matter of Armenia’s Eurasian Union accession likewise will be crucial during the visit [of the RF PM],” Zhamanak wrote.
