YEREVAN. – California Senate’s passing of resolution recognizing Karabakh's independence is progress on the way of international recognition, Deputy Speaker of Armenian parliament said.

Eduard Sharmazanov, spokesperson for Armenia's ruling party, believes that adoption of a resolution recognizing the NKR by one of the most important states of the United States means that the international community realized that NKR is a de facto independent state, and international recognition of Karabakh has no alternative.

“The march of peoples' right to self-determination continues, which once again proves that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is a de facto independent state,” he noted.

Deputy Speaker expressed the view that the decision of the California Senate will be an example not only for other U.S. states, but also for other countries.

As reported earlier, the California State Senate on Wednesday passed, by an overwhelming majority of votes, Assembly member Mike Gatto’s resolution (AJR 32) on the recognition of the independence and self-determination of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh.
