YEREVAN. – Twelve-year-old Ani Kharatyan, who was injured in the recent tragic road accident in Kobuleti, Georgia, is in critical but stable condition.   

Armenia’s Lori Regional Governor Artur Nalbandyan, one of whose employees is Ani’s father Samvel Kharatyan, the driver of the car involved in the accident, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.    

“Samvel Kharatyan is in Armenia, the two children are still in hospital, Ani’s condition is stabilizing yet it is critical, whereas the other child does not have serious bodily injuries. They [i.e., Georgian authorities] have allowed Samvel to stay in Armenia, but an investigation is underway in Georgia; I don’t know anything about the process,” Nalbandyan said.   

As reported earlier, the family of the Georgian motorcyclist, who had died in the aforesaid road accident, has filed a complaint against Armenian citizen Samvel Kharatyan. As a result, Kharatyan was not permitted to return to Armenia to attend the funeral of his son Kochar, 13, who likewise had died in this accident. But, subsequently, Samvel Kharatyan was allowed to leave Georgia only after the assurance by Armenia’s consul, ambassador, and MPs    

The Rescue Service of Armenia had received information, on August 16 at 2:35pm, from the Department of Emergency Situations of Georgia. Accordingly, there was a road accident, on the same day at 12:59pm, in the Georgian summer resort city of Kobuleti, as a motorcycle and a Hyundai had crashed. As a result, Armenian citizen Kochar Kharatyan, 13, had died on the spot, whereas Aleksandr, 8, and Ani, 12, Kharatyan were transferred to the Kobuleti medical center. On the next day, Ani Kharatyan was transferred to Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.
