YEREVAN. – The 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is a mourning ceremony, and you don’t invite to it.

Area specialist, publicist and analyst Sarkis Hatspanian stated the aforesaid, at a press conference on Friday, commenting on Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s official invitation to Turkey’s new President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and to attend the Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony next year.

According to Hatspanian, it was wrong to send Armenia FM Edward Nalbandian to Turkey just to deliver this invitation, especially since the two countries have no diplomatic relations.

“First, this was a mistake in diplomatic terms. The man [i.e., Nalbandian] shows that he is not up to the task. If a letter should be delivered, they announce [about it] in advance, [and] state why he is going,” he noted.

The analyst also expressed a view that the Armenian party is still undecided on what it will demand from Turkey. Consequently, as per Sarkis Hatspanian, it can’t say to Turkey ‘Recognize the [Armenian] Genocide!’ even on April 24, 2015.

As reported earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian attended, on Thursday in Ankara, the inauguration of Turkey's newly elected President, ex-PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan. And at the ensuing reception, Nalbandian had a short conversation with Erdogan, and handed him Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s official invitation to attend the Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony, which will take place on April 24, 2015—that is, on the centennial of the genocide—, in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.
