The European Union’s (EU) sanctions against Russia in response to the situation in Ukraine will affect the organization’s policy on Israel.

Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja noted the aforesaid, Gazeta.ru reported citing Haaretz daily of Israel.

He stated that that after offering Israel mainly “carrots” to bring about peace with the Palestinians, the EU may have to use “sticks.”

The Finland FM said that the situation in Ukraine can be compared to the “occupied” Palestinian territories, and therefore imposing sanctions against Israel is a relevant matter.

Erkki Tuomioja noted that the EU will have an active bearing on the negotiation process, and he also recognized the important role of the US in this matter.
