YEREVAN. – A project will be developed to establish the EcoKhndzristan ecovillage network in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh.

Initiative group leader, “Young Biologists Association” NGO Director Arsen Gasparyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday.

“Approximately $80,000-100,000 is required to implement the project in Astghashen, Patara, and Khndzristan villages of Artsakh.

“We will try to raise the money by way of fundraising, since in the case of international organizations, they cannot be sure in the funding issue, since it refers to Artsakh,” Gasparyan said.

“Artsakh Youth Development Center” NGO Director Susanna Petrosyan, for her part, stated that a respective agreement has been reached with the NKR government.

“An environmental club will be set up [in Artsakh], within the framework of which the local youth will carry out volunteer work,” Petrosyan noted.

“The initiative is public and environmental; anyone can participate in the volunteer work,” Gasparyan said.

He added that twenty NGOs and more than seventy volunteers already have joined them.

The “Young Biologists Association” NGO director also underscored the implementation of this project from the viewpoint of preventing the emigration of the people of Artsakh.

The said ecovillage project aims to effectively use the local natural resources and, owing to this, ensure the community’s active development and wellbeing, and also promote the development of ecotourism in Armenia and in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
