YEREVAN. – Turkey is attempting to use for its own interests the ongoing steps against the Islamic State terrorist faction.

Arab Studies specialist Armen Petrosyan stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday.

Petrosyan noted that Turkey has refused to sign under the declaration to set up a coalition against the Islamic State.

“Turkey announces about the capture of forty employees of the Turkish consulate in Iraq. In fact, this is clearly blackmail, through which the Islamic State may terminate Turkey’s participation in this coalition.

“Turkey states that if they [i.e., the coalition] are arming the Kurds, tomorrow this weapon may appear in the hands of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party [PKK] rebels, who are fighting against [official] Ankara for decades.

“That is, from the Turkish viewpoint, the participation [of Turkey] in the coalition will mean working against itself,” Petrosyan stated.

And as third point, the Armenian analyst stressed that Turkey has adopted a standby position, since no one can clearly say what these military actions may lead to.
