YEREVAN. – The private interest lies at the basis of any political reform. Armenia’s opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

Hayrikyan noted this while commenting on the rumors that incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan has launched the Constitutional reforms to secure for himself the seat of the parliament speaker in the future.

“[First President] Levon Ter-Petrosyan, second President Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan are from the same [political] team. They and most senior figures treat politics as business, and they work in the political arena stemming from their private interests, which is a universal human trait.

“But there are also those politicians who think about the welfare of their people even while in prison,” the former dissident stated.

In response to the query on the result of his recent hunger strike, the NSU leader noted that he reached his goal.

“You can’t speak about European Union [integration] for four years in a row, and then sharply go in the opposite direction,” Hayrikyan concluded.

On September 8, Paruyr Hayrikyan stated that he was going on a hunger strike for Armenia’s recovery, and he demanded President Sargsyan’s resignation.
