YEREVAN. – Armenia is actively engaged in the international processes aimed at prevention of genocides, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said during the fifth Armenia-Diaspora forum.

The Minister recalled adoption of a resolution on genocide prevention during the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva last year – the document initiated by Armenia and co-authored by nearly 60 world countries. Mr. Nalbandian said the mentioned resolution as well as Armenia's participation in conferences on the prevention of genocide in Brussels and Geneva are evidence of active involvement.

During his speech, Minister Nalbandian touched upon the security of Syrian Armenians.

“Drawing attention to the atrocities against religious and ethnic minorities – Christians, Muslims, Yezidis – by the Islamists in Iraq, Foreign Ministry, diplomatic missions abroad and foreign representations spoke about the need for international community to take action immediately. On September 1, the UN Human Rights Council developed and adopted a relevant resolution with our participation,” he said.
