Half of the German navy helicopters are not ready for flights, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported citing the document issued by the Federal Ministry of Defence (MOD) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

As per the document, during the inspection of a Sea Lynx Mk88A-model chopper of the German navy on June 16, a 20-cm gap crack was found in the tail section of the helicopter. The same problem was observed in the other navy choppers, too.

Consequently, it was decided to suspend all flights and conduct additional supervision of this model helicopter in the German navy, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

The news agency added that the Sea Lynx-model helicopters comprise about half of Germany’s navy.
