Armenia is holding discussions on withdrawing the protocols signed with Turkey from the parliament, President Serzh Sargsyan said in his address to the UN General Assembly.

“2015 has a special significance for all Armenians. On April 24 Armenian people will mark the anniversary of the most tragic events in their history, ” President said.

Serzh Sargsyan thanked the countries that have recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide, as well as officials and organizations from the U.S., EU and other states who called things by their proper name.

The Armenian leader noted that the genocide denial is one of the stages of the crime, adding that for already 100 years the Armenians scattered all over the world are expecting Turkey to find courage to face its own history and recognize the Armenian Genocide.

He stressed that Armenia had never used the Armenian Genocide recognition as a precondition for normalization of relations with Turkey, and the protocols signed nearly five years ago are still not ratified by the Turkish parliament.

Meanwhile, official Ankara said it would ratify the protocols only if the Armenians give free Karabakh to Azerbaijan, he said.

“Homeland is sacred, and keep your bargaining away,” Sargsyan emphasized.
