YEREVAN. – A total of 883 cases of illegal drug trafficking were revealed over nine months, representative of police said.

The number of drug trafficking case reduced as compared with last year, Colonel Vardan Badasyan said during a press conference on Thursday.

“The reason for reducing the number of such cases is that we set a task to carry out the work in two directions: to draw public attention to the importance of fight against drug trafficking and to prevent the import of drugs through different channels,” he said.

Badasyan noted increase in a number of criminal cases on drug smuggling to Armenia.

“362 people have been subject to criminal liability this year, as compared to 243 last year,” he said.
