Armenian News-NEWS.am spoke with Sergey Sarkisov, Armenia’s Consul General to Los Angeles. Below is the text of the interview.

“It has been three months since your first and last interview as a Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles. Then you said that work is judged by the result. What has been done recently after the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh Independence by the Parliament of California?

“The last few months were the summer time, but in spite of the vacation period, and largely due to it (our political opponents were having a rest while we were acting) we were able to complete the process of the recognition of Artsakh in California. In August, the State Senate, which is the eighth economy in the world, approved the resolution adopted on May 8th by the Parliament of California. This unprecedented event is the result of the coordinated work done by our Diaspora and the diplomats.

“Tell us, please, about your plans of the nearest future.

“The coming year is special for the Armenians all over the world. You will not find an Armenian family that one way or another did not suffer from the Genocide. The 100th anniversary of this tragedy is a special date. Here, in California, we are going to tell all Americans about it. History cannot be reversed but we are obliged not to let this terrible crime against humanity happen again neither in Armenia, nor in Karabakh or another places of the world. But unfortunately we are constantly threatened. In the centenary year of the Armenian tragedy the world must unite against all forms of ethnic and religious conflicts. U.S. is a great country and the people of United States are wonderful people who once gave shelter to many victims of the Armenian Genocide. Our task is to remind United States and the whole world that the repetition of such appalling tragedies is inevitable if no conclusions are made from such horrible events.”
