YEREVAN. – The days of genocides can be commemorated in Armenia on every December 9, the government proposed with respect to the bill which opposition Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan had introduced.

Postanjyan had motioned that May 19 be observed in Armenia as Memorial Day for the victims of the peoples (Greeks, Assyrians, Yezidis) who were subjected to genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

The aforesaid government proposal, on the other hand, offers to set December 9, the day of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, as Memorial Day in Armenia.

At the same time, the government proposes to name the day, Remembrance Day of Genocides.
