STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh, President Bako Sahakyan on Monday visited the southern wing of the country.

In Kovsakan city, President attended the official opening of a new kindergarten building. He stressed that preschool education has always been at the focus of the NKR authorities, and everything possible will be done for its further development, informed the Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President.

President Sahakyan also was on hand at the opening of the city’s fully renovated hospital, which has been upgraded with modern equipment. The President noted that the existence of such medical institutions in Artsakh’s regions, and which meet modern standards, is among the conceptual directions of developing health care, and that the state will continue implementing large-scale projects in this domain.

On the same day, the NKR President also visited the Tondirget gold mine and got acquainted with the conducted activities and the existing problems. President Sahakyan underscored the importance of the mining industry for Artsakh, considering it a fundamental direction in the country’s socioeconomic development. The President expressed gratitude to Swiss-Armenian businessman and philanthropist Vartan Sirmakes for funding this strategic program, and considered this to be one of the best manifestations of Motherland-Diaspora cooperation and patriotism.
