YEREVAN. – The Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents’ meetings, which were held at the initiative of the Russian, American and the French parties, have contributed to the maintenance of a certain balance.

“European Integration” NGO Chairman, political scientist Karen Bekaryan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

In his conviction, this fact is very important, since a monopolization of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process will not yield any good results.

Bekaryan stressed that the French party’s initiative was entirely aimed at the establishment of trust, and it was highlighted that steps need to be taken so that the leaders of the two countries prepare their people for peace.

“The statement was made in such a way, but it was [actually] addressed to [Azerbaijan President] Ilham Aliyev. Our president [, on the other hand,] has stated several times that the Azerbaijani people are not our enemy,” the analyst noted.

Karen Bekaryan also recalled that an agreement was reached, at the Paris meeting, on continuing direct contacts within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

The talks between President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev were conducted Monday at the initiative of French President François Hollande, and with the participation of the three co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
