YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov on Thursday received a delegation comprising members of the Kazakhstan-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Sharmazanov underscored the development and strengthening of interparliamentary relations.

The parties reflected on Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, in which Kazakhstan is a founding member. The interlocutors expressed a conviction that this accession will contribute to the enhancement of trade and economic relations and open new prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, the Armenian parliament deputy chair stressed that Armenia sees solely a pacific resolution to the Karabakh conflict, and within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. He added that there is no alternative to the exercising of the right of peoples to self-determination.

Reflecting on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, Sharmazanov noted that only the acknowledgment and denunciation of such crimes can prevent their repetition in the future. In addition, the NA vice-speaker invited the members of the aforesaid group to take part in the Armenian Genocide centenary anniversary events to be held next year in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

The delegation members, for their part, highlighted that they likewise see solely a peaceful settlement to the Karabakh conflict, and within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
