YEREVAN. – Armenian president's decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union was more about Ukraine than Armenia, political analyst Richard Giragosian believes.

While considering Russian president's policy on “near abroad”, one can see that Ukraine had always been “a center of gravity”, Giragosian said during a conference on Ukrainian crisis and its impact on South Caucasus.

The analyst is convinced that significance of Ukraine for the West and this region is in Russia and the policy of Putin.

“Putin's paradigm is a direct significant factor affecting the South Caucasus and Armenia in particular. For Armenia, there is a risk to be on the wrong page of history and on the wrong side of a so-called 'Iron Curtain' created by the Russian president,” he said.
