YEREVAN. - Armenia’s membership in the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union does not prevent the country from receiving financial assistance from the European Union, Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan told in Parliament, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

Khachatryan commented on the agreement with the European Union on the EU financial assistance to Armenia. According to the agreement reached during the visit of Armenia’s Minister of Economy Karen Chshmaritian to Brussels last week, in 2014 - 2017, Armenia will receive financial assistance from EU in the amount of €140 - €170 million.

“There is nothing strange. This is a smart and flexible policy and we should enjoy the benefits of any union,” Minister Khachatryan said.

Armenia, he added, attracts both internal resources and donor funds to the state budget.

“We apply the expansive fiscal policy by increasing budget spending and generating economic activity,” he added.
