YEREVAN. – Poland's Ambassador to Armenia Zdzislaw Raczynski said his country understands Armenia's position since the latter is in a specific situation.

Responding to a question about what Armenia looked like five years ago and today, Ambassador noted that he knows Armenia for almost 30 years.

According to him, by comparing today's Armenia with that in the 80s and early 90s, one can see achievements.

“But I'll be honest. In 80s Armenia in many areas was more advanced than Poland. Today the situation is that Poland is one of the advanced countries of the central Europe, occupying 20th place on the economy in the world and sixth place in the EU, and is a member of the EU and NATO. There is a question the answer to which I can not find. Could Armenia achieve more within 25 years? Armenia in a specific situation. All are fully aware of it. And we have understanding of Armenia's decisions despite my inner confidence that the association with the EU could open way to wider reforms in the country,” Ambassador said.

He noted that participation in the integration process is not an end in itself: “I hope that Armenia will find its opportunities becoming a member of other system. It is too early to give assessments”.

Asked whether there is any hope for Armenia, Ambassador clearly said: “Yes, of course”.

According to the diplomat, Armenia is a big country because of its history and culture, Armenians preserved their identity, although they did not have statehood for a long period of time.

“I am confident that today's Armenia and people will find a way to preserve the identity and development,” Raczynski added.

“It is Armenia's choice. No one is forcing,” the diplomat said, adding that the Eastern Partnership is still relevant.

“You can compare it to the box full of tools. Each state chooses a tool to help solve its problems. This program is on principle 'more for more'. The more tools, the more funding. EU is not a charity. And in relations with its partners, the Union is guided by its own interests.”
