YEREVAN. – There is no need to expect some positive changes in Azerbaijan’s policy.

Armenia’s first Human Rights Defender, “Against Legal Arbitrariness” NGO Executive Director, public activist, and Nagorno-Karabakh expert Larisa Alaverdyan stated the above-said at a press conference on Wednesday. She noted this while responding to the query on whether anything could change in Azerbaijan’s policy once Armenia joins the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.

In her view, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has put himself in a situation that he can no longer call on the public for peace and change his words.

She added that it is convenient for both the superpowers and Aliyev to deal with just one country.

“He [, Aliyev,] is totally dependent on these superpowers. What is left for him [to do] is to take his approach forward for the domestic audience by words, alone,” Alaverdyan stressed.

According to her, however, the West is not working competently and prudently, since Russia may be a more reliable partner for it than Azerbaijan and Turkey.
