YEREVAN. – An Iranian citizen intending to illegally cross the state border was detained in Armenia near the border with Turkey.

Russian Federal Security Service's border department identified the offender. In its statement, the Service said the man was detained with the help of local citizens. 

On Tuesday citizen of Gtashen village Armen E. found a stranger who asked him how to get to the Armenian-Turkish border. The Armenian citizen informed the border service about the man. The latter was identified as a citizen of Iran born in 1976 who intended to cross the border with Turkey.

The border department thanked residents of border settlements for their help in border protection.
