YEREVAN. – The less number of Turkish goods there are in Armenia, the better, Armenian Shoe Manufacturers’ Association Chairman Karapet Movsisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He stated the aforementioned in response to the query on his expectations from Armenia’s accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union, and the likely stricter customs control on goods imported from Turkey.

“This certainly will be very good.

“By purchasing their [, the Turks’,] products, we [, Armenia,] are playing into their hands,” Movsisyan stressed, in particular.

Some Turkish products, including shoes, are imported into Armenia without customs duties. In 2013, Armenia’s trade with Turkey, which almost entirely comprises imports, totaled approximately $212,500,000, or 3.6 percent of Armenia’s foreign trade; this was 3.8 percent in 2012.
