YEREVAN. – The Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) needs to freeze agricultural loans, especially the foreign currency loans.

The Chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia, Hrachya Berberyan, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Wednesday adding that this is the Achilles’ heel.

“I discussed the problem this morning with Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan. And I call, on my and his behalf, to freeze these loans, since the farmers [in Armenia] are in a desperate situation.

“I appeal to the National Assembly. Let them study where the foreign currency is going from Armenia,” Berberyan said.

As case in point, he recalled that the CBA had sold $4 million on Tuesday.

“Where is that money going? [To] which country?” Hrachya Berberyan asked, in particular.
