YEREVAN. – Several articles need to be reviewed in Armenia’s customs regulation layout.

Opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party National Assembly (NA) Faction member Artsvik Minasyan stated the aforementioned at the NA on Wednesday.

He noted that Armenia’s planned accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) needs to help raise economic competitiveness in the country. But, as per Minasyan, if the present-day customs regulation is maintained, Armenia will be deprived of this advantage. As a result, according to the ARF MP, unnecessary impediments will emerge at Armenia’s customs checkpoints and, at this level, the EEU accession will be considered a handicap.

Artsvik Minasyan also reflected on E-commerce, which ensures competitiveness within a country. He noted that this is a good opportunity to implement the government program and do away with the value-added tax (VAT) at the border. Otherwise, as per the ARF deputy, the free movement of goods will be impeded.

“The people [in Armenia] need to sense that the EEU accession gives us an advantage. We all understand that the establishment of the EEU does not depend on us [, Armenia]. But if there is an opportunity, let’s bring it to fruition for our country,” Artsvik Minasyan noted.
