YEREVAN. – “We saw that Armenia’s economy is very susceptible from the viewpoint of the fluctuations in the Russian oil prices, in the case when our country is not yet a member country in the Eurasian Economic Union [EEU].”

Historian Vahram Ter-Matevosyan, who is Associate Professor at the American University of Armenia and also head of the group that worked on the research entitled “Prospects of Armenia’s Integration Policy,” stated the abovementioned at Thursday’s presentation of this research work.

In Ter-Matevosyan’s words, the economic stability formula, which was introduced to Armenia if it joined the Russia-led EEU, was not justified.

He stressed that the main arguments in the aforesaid research prove that the decision, which was made on September 3, 2013, and with respect to Armenia’s accession to the EEU, was reached in consideration of the security factor.

“Once the decision is made at the highest level—that is, the security level—, the public view is not taken into account,” the analyst said.

In Vahram Ter-Matevosyan’s conviction, the Armenian authorities have selected the short-term and ephemeral gains.
