YEREVAN. – The restoration of Abkhazia railway is at the stage of discussions, MP from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA)Vardan Ayvazyan told reporters.

He emphasized that Georgia is supportive of new integration projects, but not at the expense of its own territorial integrity.

Ayvazyan, head of parliament's standing committee on economic affairs, recalled that there were some statements from the Russian side that expressed willingness to resume rail link through Abkhazia, however, they were not welcomed by the Georgian side.

“Armenia is certainly interested in this railway, but there is a political problem. Armenia can act as a mediator only,” he added.

Ayvazyan said that restoration of the railway should occur by mutual agreement between Russia and Georgia. There is a political component, and it is necessary to transfer the matter to the economic field,
