The Georgian side is okay with the new thermal power plant (TPP) construction project in Armenia, Mariam Valishvili, the Deputy Minister of Energy Georgia, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

She added, however, that her ministry has not met with the project manager, Georgian businessman Teimuraz Karchava because, as per Valishvili, the project is implemented in Armenia.

“We know that Mr. Karchava is interested in the development of the port in Anaklia [, Georgia]. But the energy part of the [respective] project is in Armenia, and [therefore] the Armenian side is empowered to resolve the matter,” the deputy minister explained.

The Government of Armenia had approved the agreement with Anaklia IEP Holding of Georgia, and on the construction of a TPP in Armenia. And company CEO Teimuraz Karchava had informed that this TPP will be built to supply electricity to the new port of Anaklia.
