YEREVAN. – Raw sugar imports to Armenia will be exempt from customs duties, the government decided on Thursday.

The same preference is envisaged by the treaty on Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union as of October 10, 2014.

According to the treaty, raw sugar is exempt from the customs duty but with a condition that it will be proceeded in Armenia and will not be re-exported to other countries of the Union.

The treaty says that the authorized Armenian agency, namely the ministry of economy, must confirm the targeted use of the imported product. The preferences will be in force till 2025.

Famous MP and oligarch Samvel Aleksanyan has been producing sugar since 2010.
