Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who is also leader of the liberal-conservative New Democracy party, has accepted his defeat in Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Greece.

Samaras also congratulated Alexis Tsipras, leader of the left-wing Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) party, on his win, Reuters reported.

The PM promised, however, that his party will play a decisive role in the Hellenic parliament, and continue the European direction.

During the telephonic conversation with Samaras, Tsipras, in turn, noted that happy and sad moments occur in politics, Agence France-Presse reported.

Analysts predict that the left-wing extremists will have nine more seats in the Greek parliament than the centre-right forces, Lenta reported.
