YEREVAN. – Gagik Tsarukyan will quit his post as a chairman of Prosperous Armenia party, MP Mikael Melkumyan said.

Tsarukyan will announce his decision during the party's congress on Thursday, Prosperous Armenia member said.

He added that Tsarukyan would give up a parliamentary seat and would abandon politics for some time.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan slammed Tsarukyan in his speech during RPA congress on February 12. He called Tsarukyan “an evil for the state” and relieved of his membership to the National Security Council.

On the next day Tsarukyan said his party would launch a campaign to change the regime, but called off the rally after a meeting with Sargsyan on February 17.
