YEREVAN. – The late Ashot Navasardyan, the Founding Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), would not have been against the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

National Assembly (NA) President Galust Sahakyan stated the aforesaid to reporters on Saturday, and on the occasion of the 65th birth anniversary of Navasardyan.

“Seasoned politicians are well aware of the fact that a state’s isolation means the state’s destruction,” Sahakyan said. “Today, we have seen our benefits by collaborating, and the [other] EEU member countries [i.e. Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan] likewise see their interests in the same way.”

In the NA speaker’s words, it is wrong to think that Armenia will lose its independence by joining the EEU.

“No state wants for Armenia to join it, or be deprived of its independence. If you are a state and don’t create any correlations, you are not a state; you are already becoming destroyed,” Galust Sahakyan said. “In mutual beneficial collaborations, even the most powerful states give up something to find something greater.”
