YEREVAN. – Armenia could become a regional energy center, Zhamanak daily reported.

“Chairman of the NA [i.e. National Assembly] Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Vardan Ayvazyan, stated [the aforesaid] during yesterday’s [i.e. Tuesday] roundtable [discussion], which was organized in the NA within the framework of the [Russia-led] Eurasian Economic Union.

“According to him, there is a potential investor which is prepared to build in Armenia 2,000 MW-capacity thermal [power] plants, whose produced electricity will complement the existing electricity shortage in the region.

“In all likelihood, this [‘potential investor’] refers to a Chinese company,” Zhamanak wrote.
