YEREVAN. – The mayor of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan, together with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, planted trees in the forest contiguous to the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

The event was held within the framework of the citywide tree planting that was declared for Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Margaryan thanked the representatives of the diplomatic corps for their active participation in this event.

“In the run-up to the [Armenian] Genocide Centennial, this time we held the tree planting with the ambassadors in the slope adjacent to [the] Tsitsernakaberd [Hill, where the Armenian Genocide Memorial is located],” the Yerevan mayor specifically noted.

The foreign ambassadors, for their part, underscored this initiative. They also drew attention to the location of this tree planting, and noted that they express a particular support to the Armenian people with each planted tree.

As a result of this initiative, the forest nearby the Armenian Genocide Memorial was supplemented with around 500 saplings.
