The mayor of Marseille, France, Jean-Claude Gaudin, who is also Vice President of the French Senate, together with several other officials, on Thursday unveiled two huge tapestries devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, and which are placed in front of the Marseille City Hall building.

The event brought together around 400 people, reported the French Armenian Nouvelles d’Arménie magazine.

In his remarks, Gaudin recalled the difficult fight which he, together with numerous other MPs, had waged back in 2001, and for the genocide’s formal recognition in France.

He also pointed to French National Assembly member Valérie Boyer’s current bill on criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial, and whose objective is to continue the fight to achieve the adoption of a new law that is in compliance with the Constitution of France.

The mayor of Marseille also reflected on the statement by Pope Francis who, during the recent mass at the Vatican, officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
