The Armenians of Louisiana will mark centennial of the Armenian Genocide on Sunday.

The Divine Liturgy and the offering of Requiem Services in memory of the 1.5 million martyrs of the Armenian Genocide will be held at St. Garabed Armenian Church of Louisiana.

The Divine Liturgy will be followed by Requiem Prayer Service for the Armenian martyrs who were massacred and perished in 1915-1923 for their Armenian Christian Faith and Homeland.

“As a result of the state-ordered and implemented campaign of genocide, the Ottoman Empire massacred 1.5 million Armenian men, women, and children, exiled the Armenian nation from its historic homeland, deported hundreds of thousands Christian citizens and destroyed hundreds of churches and monasteries,” the organizers said in a statement.

“The Allied Powers, England, France, and Russia, jointly issued a statement in May of 1915 explicitly charging the Ottoman Turkish Empire with committing 'a crime against humanity' and pledging to punish the perpetrators.”
