YEREVAN – Presidents of Armenia and Russia, Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin met in Yerevan on Friday.

Armenian President thanked his Russian counterpart for the visit to Yerevan and statements made today and yesterday.

“Thank you that you stand with us today, and I would especially like to thank you that the day before yesterday and today in your messages you found the words that touched the soul of every Armenian. In my assessment and according to evaluation of our citizens, those are the words of the head of an allied state, the head of a fraternal state.

In your today's speech, you said that the Russian state hundred years ago recognized together with the Government of France and the UK that the actions that the Ottoman government committed against Armenians constitute a crime against humanity and that the crime should be punished. This suggests continuity in Russian politics,” President Sargsyan said.

In turn, Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude for an invitation. “I would like to once again point out the special nature of relations between Armenia and Russia, between the Armenian and Russian people and other peoples of the Russian Federation. All this has deep historical roots. We have always been very close allies, we remain so in the future,” Putin said.

The Russian leader emphasized that relations between the countries are developing.

“Now I will not talk about politics: it goes without saying, we support each other in the international arena. Out ministries of foreign affairs are working closely, we are developing our contacts in the integration processes, and I am very pleased that Armenia has joined the Eurasian Economic Union,” he added.

Speaking about economic relations, Putin said despite the difficulties of the past year, the trade turnover volume was growing and it is important to maintain this positive trend.

“Russian investments in Armenia are growing, 40 percent of all foreign investments fall on Russia,” President Putin said.
