YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Saturday received President Joseph Daul of the European People’s Party (EPP), which is the largest party in the European Parliament, the European Council, and the European Commission.

First, the Armenian President thanked the EPP leader for accepting the invitation and standing with the Armenian people on the days of the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations in capital city Yerevan.

Sargsyan highly praised the EPP’s assistance in and dissemination of the supreme values of humanism and democracy.

The President of Armenia also stressed the EPP’s—and Daul’s personal—contribution to the European Parliament’s recent adoption of a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide.

Joseph Daul, for his part, highlighted that Friday’s remembrance ceremony was very moving for him. The EPP President also noted that even though recollection is very important to him, the next phase of reconciliation is equally important.

At the ensuing talk, the Armenian President and the EPP leader discussed Armenia-European Union (EU) cooperation, and preparations for the upcoming EU Eastern Partnership Summit to be convened in the Latvian capital city of Riga.

Serzh Sargsyan and Joseph Daul also spoke with delight about the close cooperation between the European People’s Party, and the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.
